Tech Scout — Privacy Policy

Effective date: May 7, 2026

Last updated: May 7, 2026

Summary

Tech Scout does not collect, store, sell, or share your personal information. The app uses no analytics, trackers, advertising, or user accounts. Your photographs, location data, and project information remain on your device unless you choose to share them. The only information you can transmit to us is an optional, encrypted diagnostic report, submitted via email using the Send Feedback button. That report contains no images, no location data, and no information that identifies you.

Who this applies to

This Privacy Policy applies to the Tech Scout iOS app ("Tech Scout," "the app"), published by Brook Willard ("we," "us"), and governs your use of the app on your Apple device.

Information used on your device

Tech Scout requires access to certain device features to function as a camera and location Scouting tool. In each case, the information is used only on your device and is not transmitted to us or to any third party:

• Camera - Used to display the live viewfinder and capture photographs. Images are processed on your device and saved to your iOS Photo Library. We do not see, upload, or receive your images.

• Photo Library - Used to save the photographs you capture and to display them in the in-app gallery. The app reads only the images it created for that gallery; it does not view, upload, or transmit your existing photographs.

• Location - Location is used for two purposes: embedding GPS coordinates into the photographs you capture, and the Sun Position feature. You control whether location is captured, and separately whether it is embedded into your images. If you disable location, or choose not to embed it, no location information is recorded. Any location data that is recorded is written only into your own photo files on your own device; it is not transmitted to us or to any third party. The optional diagnostic report described below never contains location data.

• Motion & Orientation Sensors - Used on your device for the level/horizon indicator and interface orientation.

What the app does not do

• The app does not collect or transmit your photographs, your location, or any information that identifies you.

• The app does not use analytics, trackers, advertising, or automatic background crash reporting. It maintains an internal technical log on your device, which is transmitted to us only if you choose to send it (see "Feedback and diagnostics" below).

• The app does not operate background servers that receive your data, and it has no user accounts.

• The app does not sell or share your information with third parties.

Feedback and diagnostics

Tech Scout includes an optional Send Feedback button. No information is transmitted unless you choose to use it.

To assist in diagnosing problems, the app maintains an encrypted internal technical diagnostic log on your device. This log may include your device model, camera and lens capabilities, the settings you used, performance measurements, and records of any crashes. The log is encrypted on your device and is designed to contain no images, no GPS or location data, no name, email address, or other identifying information, and none of the text you enter into your Director's Finder projects.

If you choose to send us feedback, then and only then, the app attaches this encrypted log to an email with an iOS mail sheet, addressed to us. You may review the message before it is sent, and you explicitly choose to send the email. We use the information you send solely to diagnose problems and improve the app. We do not use it for advertising, tracking, or profiling, and because the log contains none of the information described above, we do not associate it with your identity.

You may send us feedback without the encrypted log by either using the in-app Send Feedback button and deleting the log from the email, or by sending an email to techscoutapp@gmail.com or by contacting us on Instagram @tech.scout.app.

Your photographs

Captured images, and any metadata you choose to embed in them (including optional GPS coordinates), are saved to your iOS Photo Library on your device. You control them entirely through Apple's Photos app and iOS. Tech Scout retains no copy of them.

Subscriptions and payments

Tech Scout offers an optional paid subscription. All payments are processed by Apple through the App Store. Tech Scout does not receive, see, or store your name, payment card, or billing details. Apple's handling of that information is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy, available at https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/. Apart from feedback you choose to send us, the only information we receive is aggregated, anonymous sales reporting from Apple that does not identify you.

Children's privacy

Tech Scout is an app designed for film industry professionals and is not directed at children. That said, there is nothing inherent to the app that would be inappropriate for children, and Tech Scout does not track user identifying information.

Data security

Because Tech Scout stores information only on your device and transmits none, your information is protected by your device's own security measures, including your passcode, Face ID or Touch ID, and Apple's on-device protections. We maintain no external database of your information.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. If we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above. Material changes will be reflected in the app or its App Store listing.
